Kitchen Hacks & Savings Tips

As a self-proclaimed organizational freak (Monica Gellar gets me), I’ve learned my fair share of kitchen hacks along the way. In a blended family of seven, my hacks also have to be affordable and even actually save me some money. These three kitchen hacks both organize and help save some money for my family while satisfying my inner Monica.

Store extra Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags at the bottom of the bin

Storing extra trash bags in the bottom of the trash bin saves space in your kitchen. Utilize the unexpected space with this method and keep it smelling fresh in your trash can with Hefty Ultra Strong bags. Hefty is the only bag my husband lets me buy (he has special bag requirements) because it’s durable, with tear-resistant technology, and hugs our trash can so that it doesn’t fall in every time we toss something. And I prefer them because they have lavender scented waste bags that use Arm & Hammer to neutralize odor (also a scent-free and citrus option available!). But we both love Hefty because they’re offered at a new lower price, which saves us money in the kitchen.

Use Ibotta to earn $1.00 cash back when you purchase one box of Hefty trash bags.

Create a magnetic spice rack

No kitchen is complete without a set of spices, but they take up so much room! And not only that, but I never use an entire bottle of a spice before it expires. To save money and space, I created this magnetic spice rack inside one of my cabinets. Each container hold enough of it’s designated spice for a few meals, but not an overabundance that will expire before it gets used. Storing them this way also allows me to alphabetize them so that I can find them easier while cooking.

Repurpose old food jars

Much to my husband’s chagrin, I keep a collection of empty glass jars under out kitchen island. From pickle jars to wine bottles, I have every variety stowed away underneath there. But these are great jars for storing pantry essentials like sugar and flour. They also make great containers for gift jars. And this upcycled jars project is the dreamiest, right? My kiddos are always exploring in the yard and love to use old jars to collect rocks or treasures they find.

These three simple changes in my kitchen have saved me time and money. Hopefully, they’ll prompt you to take a closer look at your own kitchen to see how you can make it work for you and with you, saving you time, money, and space.
