Bedtime stories are a nightly tradition I think most families have and we are no different. Our kiddos love to be read to and it’s beneficial for so many reasons, but I mostly enjoy the excuse to cuddle them. Especially my boys who are getting all weirded out whenever I ask for a hug or cuddle these days. They don’t know yet that I’ll be kissing them in front of their friends until they’re 40 or that I’ll always smooth out their hair with spit and my hand. It’s my right as mom, right?! For now bed time stories are still a time where they want their mom and allow me to love on ’em as much as I want. These are several of our family’s favorite bedtime stories that I thought I’d share with you in hopes of inspiring your next bedtime story session.

From the Balloon at the Moon

This book, originally written as a letter for the author’s son after he lost a balloon, has become a fast favorite in our Christian home. From the Balloon at the Moon is a story about a fly away balloon who travels all the way to the moon. On his journey, he learns all about creation and God’s love. It’s a great book to read before bed, but it’s also a friendly book that will help to introduce the creation to small children. Written by a friend of mine, Alicia Howell, and illustrated by her daughter’s friend, this story is a staple for a Christian family’s library. Alicia has offered a coupon code for 15% off when you purchase her book through her Create Space listing. Simply use code S2BPX7WV at checkout and receive your 15% off.

Where the Wild Things Are

A classic that I think most families are familiar with, Where the Wild Things Are follows a boy named Max who dons a wolf suit that makes his imagination run wild… all the way to where the wild things are.

Good Night Moon

Good Night Moon is a great winding down story for bedtime that features a child saying goodnight to all the things in his bedroom.

Chick Chicka Boom Boom

This is one of our favorites and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom has been read to each of our kiddos since they were born. It’s a super fun book to read that takes you through the alphabet with fun rhymes and colorful illustrations.

If I Could Keep You Little

If I Could Keep You Little definitely tugs at a mama’s heart strings. It’s a short story about a mom struggling with that simultaneous feeling of wanting her baby to stay little, but longing to see her grow and blossom into the person she is going to grow up to be. It’s a sweet story to read to your kids and cuddle them close as you both pray for time to slow down while also embracing them as they grow and become their own person.

Bedtime stories are one of my favorite ways to bond with my children. The before bed minutes when we cuddle close, pray together, and discuss what’s going on in their lives is one of the few times each child gets their own devoted one on one time with me. These books are more than books and will forever be cherished keepsakes and ones that I’ll pass onto them when they become parents.
