Four Ways to Soothe a Sore Throat

By Holly Sosa

As a busy mother and stepmother of five, I don’t have time to get sick. I just plain and simple cannot get sick. When I feel a tickle in my throat or that dragged down muscle ache feeling in my body, I get proactive and take care of my symptoms immediately. When cold, cough, and flu season is in full swing, I keep my medicine cabinet well stocked with items like Chloraseptic Spray, chamomile tea, and essential oils to keep the germs at bay and me at my healthiest. Over the years, I’ve developed my own routine and ways to soothe a sore throat that I’m sharing with you today to better help you prepare for when those germs strike your home again.

Chloraseptic Spray®

Chloraseptic® sprays are the #1 pharmacist recommended brand for sore throat liquids and sprays and are perfect to offer you targeted relief. With cold, cough, and flu season in full swing, a raw and sore throat is almost inevitable, but by using Chloraseptic Spray® I can get targeted relief for throat and mouth pain with immediate results to help me get through my day. I keep Chloraseptic Spray in the new cherry flavor and their throat lozenges in my medicine cabinet for the relief I need, when I need it. You can find their complete list of products and flavors, available at mass retailers nationwide, by visiting them here.

Steam baths

When my kids are sick, this is my go to solution for them. Especially since one of my boys gives me such a battle when it’s time for medicine. I turn on my shower as hot as it goes and then have him sit inside the bathroom with the door closed for several minutes. The steam helps loosen some of the mucus and clear his airways. It’s also soothing on a raw and sore throat.

Essential oils

Essential oils are my jam and I love using them in my day to day life as well as helping soothe symptoms of a cold or cough. Peppermint oil is definitely my most used oil when it comes to treating cold, cough, and flu symptoms. The menthol provides me with a cooling sensation that also clears my nasal cavities so I can breathe and get my best rest. Diffusing it in my cool mist diffuser at night is my preferred way to get all the benefits. Lavender oil is also one of my go-to oils because of it’s relaxation properties that help me to drift off to peaceful sleep.

Warm tea with honey

A classic that I think most of us in the mom club rely on when we’re feeling sick. The honey coats a sore throat and soothes the raw feeling while the warmth of the tea helps to loosen all that gunk and mucus trapped in my airway.

Chloraseptic® Pharmacist Maria Mantione recommends practicing healthy habits by getting plenty of sleep, eating balanced meals, exercising, and keeping stress to a minimum to help you stay healthy this cold, cough, and flu season. If you do get sick, speak with your pharmacist about how to manage symptoms with medications. Before cold season, stock your medicine cabinet with plenty of the essentials like pain relievers, fever reducers, a decongestant, cough medicine, lozenges, and of course Chloraseptic Spray®. Topical medications, like Chloraseptic® sore throat sprays and lozenges are great to have on hand because they are portable, can be used safely with other cold medicines, and have very few side effects.
