With the cold dry desert air on my face this winter, my poor lips have taken quite the beating. I feel like they’re always chapped and dry and like I’m constantly reaching for my lip balm. It’s become pretty clear that I need a little something extra to heal my chappies, so I decided to whip up some of my own DIY Vanilla Orange Lip Scrub and now my only issue is that I can’t stop eating it! After just one quick use of this, my lips felt smooth, refreshed, and moisturized.
To start, you’ll add three parts sugar to a bowl.
Then add one part olive oil. I used simple white sugar and olive oil I have on hand in my pantry. If you don’t have olive oil, you can use coconut oil too.
Mix the oil and sugar together. I’ve found using a fork works best for this part.
Next you’ll add in some vanilla bean paste. You can use regular vanilla extract too. I’m just a vanilla bean paste lover and prefer to use it over extract in nearly all of my recipes, so it’s what I have on hand.
Give everything a nice good stir again.
Once everything is combined, add in a two or three drops of Wild Orange essential oil. If you don’t use essential oils yet (you should definitely try them out!), you can stop at the vanilla and enjoy it as a plain vanilla lip scrub. I like the added flavor that the wild orange gives because it makes it taste like an orange Creamsicle!
This next part is totally optional, but if you’d like to add in a little tint, add in a drop or two of orange food coloring and stir everything together.
Give it all one last good mix.
Transfer to a glass lip balm jar and use whenever you’re feeling a little extra chapped up or just want to polish up your kisser before a date with your partner!
This fun DIY Creamsicle Lip Scrub also makes a creative gift for friends, teachers, and even as a party favor. In fact, I’m going to whip up a red strawberry version for my daughter’s Minnie Mouse birthday party later this month.
This recipe (printable version below!) filled up six one ounce jars, so it makes a decent amount. And when you compare it to LUSH’s steep $9.95 per jar price, this version is a pretty clear choice (ended up costing me roughly $1 a jar)!
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- 2 drops Wild Orange essential oil
- 2 drops orange food coloring (optional)
- In a small bowl, combine sugar with coconut oil.
- Add in vanilla bean paste and essential oil and combine well.
- Add food coloring and mix until color distributes evenly.
- Transfer to glass lip gloss jar and store for up to six months.
