Living in the desert, we take hydration pretty seriously. With the hot sun beating down on our playgrounds and homes, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Our schools ask parents to send their children with full water bottles everyday to help ensure the kiddos keep themselves safely hydrated throughout the school day (check out Collin and all the Nestlé® Pure Life® Water bottles on his class tables), but my kids quickly get bored with plain water. They’re kids and I totally get it because I do too. Today, I’m sharing three fresh ways to enjoy your water that my kids and I all love.

1. Add fresh fruit. Did you know adding lemon to your water can help boost your metabolism? Adding lemon and lime is one of my top fave ways to add some flair to my water bottle. For my kids, a few strawberries or raspberries encourages them to drink up because they get a healthy little treat once they finish!

2. Sometimes it’s as simple as a striped straw. I’m a believer in celebrating the little things in life and a stripey straw definitely add a little cheer and celebration to any beverage. My kids mysteriously want extra water whenever I add a fun straw to their water bottles.

3. To ensure you’re getting your daily intake, try tally marking your water bottle each time you fill it up. I get a fresh Nestlé® Pure Life® Water from my fridge each morning and use the same bottle throughout the day. When I finish a full bottle, I record it directly on the bottle with a tally mark. When I’ve marked it seven times, I know I’ve reached my goal.

Robin Plotkin, a Nutrition Communications Consultant, also offers her own helpful tips and shares some statistics from the Nestlé® Pure Life® online survey, conducted in June 2015, of 1,077 moms of kids ages 6-12 overall, including 254 Hispanic moms of kids ages 6-12; 1,077 kids ages 6-12 from the same household were also surveyed.

    • Lead by example. Each time Mom or Dad goes for a drink of water, ask your children if they’d like a drink of water, too. Soon, it will be the kids asking the parents if they’d like to join them for a water break.
    • Drink a cup when you wake up. Create a routine that involves drinking 1 cup of water upon waking. Simply leave a supply of disposable paper cups near the sink. Much like washing the face and brushing teeth, this will quickly become a regular part of the morning for each family member.
    • According to 88% of moms surveyed*, water is the beverage their child most regularly drinks in the car. Make this a healthy habit by making sure that each child has a bottle of water in hand before they leave the house.
