There’s a new obsession in our home and it’s DinoTrux, a new Netflix Original Series. Check out the preview on the Netflix YouTube channel, found here. It’s got everything my rough and tumble little dudes love: dinos, trucks, dirt, construction, and laughs. When they come home from school each afternoon, I can count on them asking for one of two things: screen time or DinoTrux. After some homework time (sight word practice), I’m happy to oblige my hard working kiddos.
Yesterday, I had an extra surprise in store for my DinoTrux lovers and set up a fun scavenger hunt with clues scattered throughout the house. At the end, were a couple of fun DinoTrux themed prizes for the boys to share between the two of them.
After their exhaustive hunt, I settled them down with some DinoTrux Popcorn I whipped up earlier that day while they were at school.
To create this popcorn for your kids, you’ll start by popping some fresh popcorn. You can do this on the stove, but I’ve got my own popcorn making machine. What can I say… we eat a lot of popcorn ’round here. Next, you’ll spread the popcorn out over a few sheets of wax paper to cool.
While it’s cooling, warm some melting candy in DinoTrux colors in the microwave. I went with green and orange, but black and yellow would have been a fun combo, too.
Using a spoon, gently swing a spoonful of melted candy all over the popcorn. It will slide off the spoon and drizzle nicely over the popcorn. There’s no need to worry about making it look a certain way. The beauty of this is that it’s supposed to look messy!
For extra DinoTrux authenticity, I tossed in a few chocolate rocks on top of the melted candy.
Allow the popcorn to dry for one to two hours, or until the candy has solidified.
You can break up the popcorn with your hands and scoop it into popcorn bags before enjoying an episode of DinoTrux fun with your kiddos. I decorated our bags with a little construction tape doodle that resembles the toy packaging on our D-Structs toy.
With back to school season in full swing, it means our family’s schedules are getting busier than ever. Not only do we have school schedules, but also karate, which means our family is spending less time together at home. With Netflix, our family gets to enjoy a movie night together once a week as we reconnect and enjoy each other at home between our busy schedules.
How will you stay connected with your family this school year? Are movie nights your thing? Let’s chat family night in the comments below.
