Phillipians 4:5-7

One of my biggest struggles in my life is anxiety. In fact, I have such severe anxiety that it manifests itself in physical symptoms and conditions. I read recently that where you struggle with anxiety the most is where you trust God the least (source). It spoke to me and my nature, why I’m anxious, and forced me to ask why I’m untrusting of Him in certain life situations. It’s hard for me to give up control in many aspects of my life, just as my husband (ha!). I believe that my loss of control attributes to my lack of trust and therefore results ultimately in stomach churning anxiety.

This week, I turned to my Bible for references on anxiety and how to best cope with it. I was eventually lead to Phillipians 4 and was deeply moved by the following:

5Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.

This was a reminder for me to give it all to Him through prayer and thanks. There is peace in Him, this I know for certain. Instead of running to Google when I’m worried about something, why am I not opening my Bible and speaking to Him through prayer for peace and guidance? Whatever the case, I’m making more of an effort to lean on Him rather than my anxiety.
