Cheat Meals Theory

cheat meals

Summer is coming to a close, dear friends, and my weight loss journey took a toll on me. I didn’t stick to my plan, I ate terribly, and as a result, I gained weight back. I’m back in my fat pants and upset with myself over it. I’m ashamed of myself and even scared to share this tough part of my journey with you. But if nothing else, I want to be honest and transparent with you as you follow me along on this path in my life.

My blood pressure is bordering on the high end and that scares me. With a family history of heart disease and diabetes, and with my 30th birthday on the horizon, my health must take a priority. It’s high time to toss the excuses and stick with it.

Earlier this week, I received my latest Medifast food shipment and with it came a new sense of motivation and urgency. I’m using all my previous tricks: laying out my food each day, tracking my calories via my app, and this month, I’m implementing something new: cheat meals. I’m granting myself three a month for now and ensuring they fall on days when we will be celebrating something or out shopping. I first heard of this idea from Livy Love, a longtime blog friend of mine who lost nearly 100 pounds. She shared her calendar where she designated cheat meals/days to have something to look forward to and keep her on plan.

I can see how cheat meals can help and actually keep you motivated when you see that fun treat at the end of the tunnel. I feel like my biggest issue is feeling deprived or angry that I’m missing out. Food and I have a celebratory relationship and I eat when I’m happiest. Which is great because I’m fat, which clearly means I’m happy with my life. Ha! But it’s damaging to my health and is evidence of my poor relationship with food and how I consume it. It’s my theory that having these cheat meals to look forward to will help me stay on plan knowing I can still indulge and eat foods I love.

What are your thoughts on cheat meals? Do you think they help or make weight loss harder? Whatever the case, my weight loss journey is one of trial and error and this is one trial Im hoping will help me succeed in my overall journey.
