I’ve been working hard this summer, ensuring my kids have some sort of activity to look forward to every day. We’ve completed several activities thus far: ice cream play dough, paper bag jellyfish, and tie dye tank tops. Last week, we created galaxy slime and the kids still ask to play with their sensory tool even today. It was a simple DIY that uses items most families already have in their home, so I’m sharing it with you today.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
To start, you’ll pour an entire bottle of Elmer’s glue into a bowl.
Next you’ll add some glitter. We just went for it, using an entire bottle.
You’ll also add the paint color you want. Since we are going for galaxy, think purples, blacks, and blues.
Give it a good stir and then add your liquid starch. There is no true measurement here. Start with a splash or two and go from there to create the texture you want.
You’ll stir again and this time you’ll notice how it almost instantly starts to bind everything together. Once you can’t stir anymore, dive in with your hands to mix everything together.
This is supposed to feel slimy and gooey, but it shouldn’t stick to your hands or other surfaces. It’s a sensory experience, even for adults! In my case, the glitter did tend to stick to hands when the slime is being played with, but it washes off easily and who doesn’t love a little glitter?
Save this craft idea for a summer afternoon when your child declares infinite boredom. Not only can they help you make this slimy goo, but it will be a sensory tool they will enjoy all day long.
