Over the past year or so, I have been more into makeup than I ever have. I feel confident when I look my best and put my loveliest face forward. Makeup allows me to play up my favorite features and minimize those I’m not fond of (hello there schnozz!). Lately, I’ve been all about a classic glam red lip thanks in huge part to my fresh white teeth from Colgate®. I thought I’d share a perfect red lip tutorial using some of the new tricks and tips I’ve learned over the past year. Hopefully this will inspire you to rock a bold red lip or maybe even to try the Colgate® Optic White® Express White Toothpaste to brighten up your smile behind a nude lip.

The very first thing you should do before applying any of your makeup is to brush your teeth. Clearly, I didn’t take my own advice in these photos because my face was done and I forgot to brush my teeth beforehand, which resulted in me having to reapply much of my powder and concealer around my mouth. Take it from me, brush beforehand. Having a freshly cleaned mouth that also happens to brighten and whiten your smile is one of my best beauty tips. Colgate® Optic White® Express White is an easy and fast way to get whiter teeth just by brushing. I have zero time for other methods and saw results from my toothpaste in just a few short days. It also contains two times more of the professionally recommended whitening ingredient hydrogen peroxide (vs. Optic White Sparkling Mint TP).

Once your mouth is clean and on it’s way to being so glam and white, apply your face makeup and eye makeup before even thinking about your lips. Lipstick gets easily coated or dulled by powder, shadows, and other makeup you put on your face, so make sure your lip is the last thing you apply.

Next, use a lip liner that is a shade or two darker than your lipstick. Lip liner is a must with red lips as it helps to keep things looking polished and refined. You definitely don’t want any stray lipstick on your upper lip, am I right?

To line your lips, first line the outer edges of your upper and lower lip. For va-va-voom Kylie Jenner lips, try outlining just above your natural lip line. Next, add a small line in the middle of your lower lip and then add two more to either side. This will help give you a pout-like lower lip that we all just adore. For the upper lip, you’ll add two small lines opposite of the center to help you get a fuller look. If you’re anything like me, your top lip is near non-existent and this will help give the illusion of larger lips.

Now you’re ready to apply your lipstick. I prefer to just slide mine on directly from the tube, but you can get more control if you use a lip brush to fill in your lips. Be sure to blend in the liner nicely to help achieve the fuller look and always blot once or twice, my favorite part.
