Five Minute Friday: Send

By Holly Sosa

I’m joining Kate from Heading Home for Five Minute Friday this week after being prompted by my cousin, Debbie from West Word. She knew this week’s prompt would mean something to me. And I’m all for a good writing exercise. This week’s prompt is send. Time for five unadulterated minutes of purging words.

GO.

When I think of send, I think of my Grandma. She was always encouraging me to write letters and send them to my cousins in Michigan. She also frequently send letters, cards, and the occasional package to my sister and I when she went back to Michigan for the summer. I also think of my aunts, who never missed a birthday when I was growing up. I could always count on a card and a crisp five dollar bill. I felt important, loved, and remembered each time I received a hand written card or note. I’m certain this is why I’ve carried on this tradition with my cousins, their kids, and my own family. Hand written sentiments are all but forgotten with all this (fabulous!) technology, but there is something to be said for a mailed card or note handwritten with love and care. Sending love. That’s what it really is, when you think about it. Visual love that you had to physically create.

STOP.
