Our dogs are an extension of our family. Around here, we are pooch people. Despite our complaints about slobbery kisses, nutty play flights, and the occasional closet poop, we love our dogs with all our hearts. Not to be forgotten this Valentine’s Day, I created a couple of no-sew dog collar bows for both Merry and Dasher that they sport with pride. Pair them with MilkBone or Pup-Peroni (links live on 01/16) treats and your dog will most definitely feel the Valentine’s Day love.
My local Walmart is one of the Holy Grail type of Walmart that sells loads of craft supplies and even fabric; so I was able to purchase all of my supplies in one place. From the dog collar to MilkBones to the fabric for our bows.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- fabric (your choice)
- scissors
- fabric glue
- twine
- clips
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut a rectangle from your fabric. No need for specific measurements, I’m keeping this easy! Keep in mind, the bigger the rectangle, the bigger the bow.
- Flip over the fabric to the blank side of the pattern.
- Fold each of the long sides down to the middle.
- Use fabric glue or a hot glue gun to secure the fabric to the middle.
- Next, bring the short ends to the middle.
- Secure these to the middle with glue.
- Now flip over your fabric and fold it in half, long-ways.
- Use a dab of glue to secure the middle of it.
- Fold over the top end and secure with glue.
- Fold under the bottom end and secure with glue.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours.
- Fluff out your bow and wrap the twine around the middle.
- Secure a clip to the middle for easy attachment and removal from your dog’s collar.
- Allow the glue on the clip to dry completely before attaching it to your dog’s collar.
Let’s be real, my dogs gave zero cares about their bows and I couldn’t get them to hold still long enough for photos of them sporting their adorable new frock. I wish I could dazzle you with pretty photos of my pups in their DIY, but the MilkBones were all they cared about. Even that was hard to photograph.
