My family has a pretty major summer trip coming up to visit our family in Michigan. While most families travel to tourist destinations and theme parks for their summer trips, Michigan is my family’s own personal playground. We look forward to our annual trip to the Great Lakes State and I love using it as an opportunity to educate my kiddos on my home state. For instance, Michigan cherries are one of the states most prized specialty crops. I’m a total cherry snob and believe Michigan cherries to be superior (see what I did there?) to all other cherries. While we’ve been counting down the days to our trip, I’ve been getting my kiddos excited by reading books about Michigan and enjoying cherry-based treats like these Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate Ice Cream Sammies made with the most amazing ice cream flavor from Blue Bunny® called Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate®.
To start, I grab some refrigerated sugar cookie dough and bake it according to the instructions.
Once the cookies have baked and had time to cool, I pull out Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate Blue Bunny Ice Cream and place a big scoop on the bottom of one of the sugar cookies. Blue Bunny ice cream is made with fun, fresh ingredients and I love their fun spins on classic flavors like my beloved cherries. Plus it’s available at Walmart where I do my family’s weekly grocery shopping, making it easy to deliver tasty summer memories!
I grab another cookie and place it right on top of the scoop and gently press it down to create a delicious little ice cream sammie.
These can be enjoyed immediately or placed in an air tight container and stored in the freezer to enjoy later.
My kiddos (and husband!) were so excited to enjoy these tasty Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate Ice Cream Sammies. They enjoyed every last bite while they chatted about our visits to Michigan in the past and what their favorite parts about the state are. Our cherry themed treat was so delicious and created the perfect summer memory even before our trip has begun!
For us, ice cream and summer go hand it hand; so it makes sense that many of our summer memories are connected to the frozen treat. In fact, The Original Bomb Pop® was my favorite summer treat as a little girl and I buy them every year for my own kiddos to enjoy on the front steps of our home. Blue Bunny’s summer game is strong with our family, ha!
