We’re just three weeks into summer break in our home and we’ve already made two road trips. Our family enjoys traveling and thankfully so, because as a blended family, travel is part of the job description. Since we travel frequently, we make taking care of our vehicles high priority. Thankfully, we can buy most everything we need to maintain our vehicle at our local Walmart. When it came time to do a quick air filter change, I grabbed a FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter while out doing my usual grocery shopping. My husband’s cardinal rule is to change the air filter when he changes the oil. Air filters are the engines first line of defense and a clean air filter can increase acceleration, horsepower, and improve overall engine performance, so I understand his emphasis on changing it out. While he changed our oil and filter to prepare our car for summer travel, I got to work on my own project to help protect the backseats from dusty footprints.
Changing the air filter on your car is crazy easy. It sounds impressive to say you can change the air filter in your car, but it’s literally as easy as pancakes. Just open the air filter compartment to remove the old filter.
Insert the new FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter.
And close the compartment.
Secure the lid with the snaps and you’re done!
Getting in and out of our car, my boys, without fail, leave dusty footprints all over the backs of the seats. Living in the desert I suppose it just goes with the territory, but man does it make me a little cuckoo-cachoo. This solution not only protects the backs of the seats, but also adds a few pockets for them to store snacks and toys in during long road trips while we travel throughout the summer. And the best part is that I made this without sewing a single stitch!
SUPPLIES
- 1/2 yard of fabric
- elastic
- heat activated adhesive bond
- an iron
To start, I measured the back of the seat and cut my fabric to match, leaving an inch all around.
I folded over the extra inch and ironed it down flat.
Next I placed the adhesive strips between the folds and ran the iron over it to activate. After it cooled, I removed the adhesive backing.
And then folded over the edge and ran the iron over it one more time to seal it all around.
I added elastic to the top and to the bottom with the adhesive bond after measuring the seat again to see how much I’d need to secure the fabric to the seat.
I let everything sit for about an hour before installing it over the seat.
With our handy new No-Sew Seat Protectors and a fresh air filter installed, our car is ready to take us on all sorts of summer adventures this year. With five kiddos, we’ve got a lot planned and now that our car is taken care of, our biggest concern will be with fitting in all of the activities we want to do before school starts again!
