Movie night in the Sosa House is a big deal. Those of you who follow me on social media know that we take our sleep out nights seriously. I dream of one day having a house with an in-home theater in it, but for now we’re content with piling all of our blankets and pillows into the living room, popping some popcorn in our authentic movie theater machine, and enjoying quoting our favorite one-liners. The end of the school year marks the beginning of a summer movie night extravaganza where most nights you’ll find the Sosa clan gathered around the TV together after dinner, renting the latest releases on VUDU thanks to our Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan perks.
Since movie night requires several cozy blankets and a laughable amount of pillows, I was inspired to create these fun Movie Quote Pillows for each member of our family. I based each person’s pillow on their favorite movie and featured an unforgettable one-liner that, let’s be honest, we quote all too often in our house.
SUPPLIES
- a pillowcase (washed and ironed)
- black fabric paint
- a stencil brush/dabber
- letter stencils
- a piece of cardboard
- a pillow
To start, I grabbed my pillowcase and stuck the piece of cardboard inside. The cardboard will help keep my fabric flat while also preventing the paint to seep through to the other side of my pillowcase.
Next, I taped my stencils to form one of my son’s favorite movie phrases. For this tutorial, I’m using a quote from one of our family’s favorites, Minions, “Bello!” Minions is available on VUDU and since we get a free movie download every month for purchasing the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan, we took advantage to watch one of our favorites for our end of the school year movie night.
I poured some of my paint into a paper plate and then used my stencil dabber to pick up some paint.
Next, I dabbed over the stencils gently until the letters were all filled in….and maybe played some games on our Cool Pad Rogue afterwards.
I allowed the paint to dry for 24 hours before washing it and placing a pillow inside of it.
This fun craft was a fun way for us each to get creative and express our personalities. I loved hearing what each kid’s favorite movie quote was. And they cherish these pillows to no end. Who knew some fabric paint and stencils could make dreams come true?
