Matthew 12:50

A good friend of mine invited me to join a Bible study at her church when we first met a year ago. At the time, my schedule was overwhelming and I had to decline. She again invited and I brushed her off. She never stopped asking and kindly leaving the door open for me to join in and a few weeks ago, I finally agreed. For the past month, Evelyn and I have been attending Bible study and I have been all the more amazed by God’s word through this study and through the women who minister at this weekly gathering. Billynda, if you’re reading this, I cannot thank you enough for being bold and kind each time you invited me.

This week, we’ve been assigned passages to dive deeper into and outline. One of these was Matthew 12 and it was only natural for me to use my art to dive deeper into the words. These verses were meaningful to me as a mother raising children of God and I wanted to memorize them.

48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Verse memorization isn’t something I typically feel compelled to do, but with this passage, I wanted to make sure I could properly remember it. To remind myself and my children of this without needing to refer to my Bible. This passage is where Jesus points out that no relationship is higher than the one we have with God. The man loved his mother, of that there is no doubt. But He wanted to use this opportunity to tell people how truly important our covenant with God is. Through that relationship and understanding, we are family.

The more I dive in during this Bible study, the more I learn and then I get super pumped to talk about and share Jesus. You guys, I want to be a sister of Christ, don’t you? Putting God first in our family has changed our lives and hearts. This verse in Matthew shares the importance of doing that and becoming a sister of the one true King.
