My family is full of proud Latinos between my son’s Bolivian heritage and my husband’s Puerto Rican heritage; we love Latin flavor in our foods. As the mother and primary chef in the family, I feel a responsibility to connect my family with authentic flavors that are a part of their culture and heritage. Where I can, I love to put a Latin spin on classic American foods which is exactly what I did with this Jalapeño Grilled Cheese we had for lunch this weekend. Full of melted classic American cheese and packed with spicy Latin flavor from La Morena Sliced Jalapeños, this clever spin embraced the best flavors from both worlds.
To start, you’ll need some bread and butter. Butter all sides of each slice of bread.
Next sprinkle on some garlic powder and chili powder on each slice.
Lay one piece of bread in a warm pan and add a slice of cheese to it.
Next add your sliced jalapeños. Doesn’t that look positively delicious?
And one more slice of cheese for optimum gooey-ness.
Top with another slice of bread and let it sit for a bit to start melting that cheese into the bread and all over the jalapeños.
Give it a quick flip once the bottom is nice and toasted to allow the other side a chance to toast up.
Once both sides have been toasted nicely and the cheese has melted thoroughly, remove the sammies and allow them to cool for a minute or two.
There’s no better way to enjoy a grilled cheese than cut into triangle halves, am I right?
If you really want to eat like a Latino, serve this perfectly melty spicy sammie with a side of frijoles (beans). You could also pair it with this Mexican Macaroni Salad I created using authentic La Morena products.
Celebrate summer and send her off with a Latino farewell before school starts with La Morena products you can find in the Hispanic aisle at your local Walmart.
