As a desert dweller, my skin care routine is a little different to account for the dry climate. With already dryness-prone skin, I need to be careful about over-washing since it can further dry out skin and leave me with scaly rough patches. Wherever I can, I use natural products that are gentle on my skin and always use a quality moisturizer that I can depend on to help my skin stay hydrated in the desert heat. Today I’m sharing my step by step desert dweller skin care routine and sharing my favorite products to achieve a dewey glow during the hot summer months.

At the end of every day, I wash with the new Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil, which I know sounds weird. But this is not nearly as oily as it name makes it sound. In fact it’s light, refreshing, doesn’t clog pores, and it leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. It contains no parabens, phthalates, SLS or petrolatum and is 100% natural. It gently removes my makeup without damaging my skin and uses the natural dirt removing power of Argan and Coconut Oils that are gentle without stripping away my skin’s natural barriers.

Before bed I slather on a generous layer of Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Daily Moisturizing Lotion. In true Burt’s Bees fashion, this product feels amazing on my skin. It’s cool and refreshing and unlike other moisturizers makes my face feel like it’s breathing rather that suffocating under product. I have a sensory issue with lotion and if it’s too oily or greasy, I’ll ditch it after just one use. Clearly this moisturizer is opposite because I use it twice daily to hydrate my face and never feel weighed down by it. The smell is invigorating and natural, thanks to the use of Lemongrass, Witch Hazel, Goldenseal, and Hops all blended together for the perfect scent that doesn’t overwhelm. In the desert sun, my irritated skin looks forward to the soothing and calming effects of this moisturizer. I’m a fan for life, ya’ll. Plus it comes in a glass bottle, which may not mean much to anyone else, but I love when my beauty products are packaged in glass, it makes me feel luxurious!

After a good night’s sleep, I greet my morning with a shower and then another dose of Burt’s Bees Natural Acnes Solutions Daily Moisturizing Lotion before applying any makeup or BB cream. A solid foundation before any makeup application is a quality moisturizer and this one doesn’t fail me.

Once my skin is moisturized, I apply my makeup for the day. Perfect, dewey, and feeling fresh thanks to the Burt’s Bees ingredients that leave my face clean, moisturized, and never over processed. In the desert, the dry climate can further irritate skin if you over wash, which is why I stick to just once at night and opt instead to use a moisturizer that helps fight acne while it keeps my skin hydrated.
