I’m a well-known fan of chili and since my kids don’t like beans, I help myself to copious amounts when it’s available. Earlier this month, we had a family gathering and my mother-in-law brought over a chili that was positively divine. I had two helpings and had to stop myself from a third. I kidnapped the leftovers and enjoyed them for the following two days. It was musical up in the Sosa home you guys. Mu-si-CAL.
My MIL’s chili was wonderful. It was so simple and when she told me her secret, I was shocked! I never would have guessed all that flavor came from such a simple place: a jar of Pace® Picante Salsa. It was such a creatively simple solution for adding quick flavor that I knew this recipe would make my list of back to school dinners. With back to school around the corner, it’s time to think about quick and easy weeknight meals, which is probably why I’m unusually excited about this easy three bean turkey chili recipe.
Let’s get started by browning some ground turkey in a pan. Once it’s totally browned, set it aside.
Add three cans of beans to a slow cooker. I prefer black, kidney, and pinto. You can play with this mixture and go for all three cans the same bean or switch it up like I do.
Next add in a jar of Pace® Picante Salsa. This is such a great way to add genuine southwest flavor and since the salsa is made with handpicked veggies, it introduces varying textures to the chili.
Now add in a can of Swanson® Chicken Broth.
And about a half a cup of brown sugar.
Don’t forget the ground turkey!
Give everything a good stir to incorporate all the flavors.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for four hours or low for eight.
This chili is less about spice and more about rich ranch-like flavor. It’s savory with a touch of sweetness and filling. I like to top mine off with some cilantro for color before serving, but it’s often inhaled before my touch of green can be properly admired.
