This post is sponsored by New Air. A big thank you to these folks for giving us a nifty gadget that not only cools us desert dwellers off, but also adds some much needed moisture to our air.

As a desert dweller, I’m well versed on the challenges summer will bring my family and me. I am prepared with a list full of indoor activities for the kids, have pulled out and cleaned our plastic pool, and have budgeted for the coming energy bills that somehow knock me on my rear every single year. Summer in the rural desert typically means we keep indoors, out of the unbearable heat. And each year, my husband and I go back and forth in a thermostat war, letting out passive aggressive heavy sighs each time one of us adjusts it to figure out the perfect balancing act between keeping cool and keeping the energy bill affordable.

This year, I’ve armed myself with help from New Air and one of their Luma Comfort tower evaporative coolers. With the desert sun causing a severely dry climate year round, having an option that adds moisture into the air while also keeping us cool is a fabulous solution. Since this evaporative cooler is made for smaller areas, we set it up in the master bedroom and enjoyed cool air while we slept. Jacob and I are both sweaty sleepers, so having an added element to keep us cool (that’ll do ceiling fan, that’ll do) made for a comfy night’s sleep.

The LUMA COMFORT EC45S Tower Evaporative Cooler also contains a dust filter that traps particles and came with a remote control to easily move between the three settings: manual, natural, and sleep. Perhaps my favorite part is that this awesome gadget will help me lower my energy costs this summer. It plugs into the wall and uses about as much energy as a standard household light bulb. It’s eco-friendly, using the natural process of evaporating air to cool down your space, which means no Freon or other harmful chemicals. They also include two ice packs for maximum cooling.

Hey, Summer! The Sosa family is ready for you! Bring it!

The design is slim, attractive, and space-saving. And this thing is so quiet, you’d never know it was on! While it’s designed for small spaces, we have used it in our living room a few times and enjoyed the added cool air and moisture while we watched a family movie.
