My husband is a proud comic nerd and his love for superheroes and villains has naturally been inherited by my son and stepson. With the newest Avengers movie, MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, being released on May 1st, I thought I’d indulge my boys in a viewing sleepover party to get caught up on their favorite superheroes. Shhh, don’t tell the other guys, but Ironman is a clear favorite around these parts.

Since we decided to host an Avengers sleepover with a few friends, I didn’t want to get crazy with food and drinks right before the kids fell asleep. I kept it simple with Hulk Popcorn (simply popped popcorn drizzled with a little green food coloring and shaken to coat), Iron Man candy, Hulk candy, Dr Pepper Cherry, and oatmeal cookies. When everyone arrived, we kicked off our party with some temporary tattoos, so I left those right next to the snacks.

We loaded the screening area (living room), with pillows blankets, and closed the curtains to keep it dark. The kids were allowed to get snacks and drinks as they pleased right there in the movie room, which they just thought was the coolest. I placed a few photos of the more recognized Avengers above the table for easy decoration and used Iron Man washi tape to secure them to the wall.

I found some Avengers stationery kits and action figures in the toy area at Walmart and picked up a few for favors that the kids could reuse at school. I thought it would give them something to chat about in the coming days when the used their erasers and pencils. I also picked up as many of the DVDs as my budget would allow. Because that in itself would make me a total Super Mom and then I could work on becoming a member of The Avengers. My superhero ability? Cuddles that can tame even the most beastly of villains, of course!

After we all enjoyed a little dinner, it was a snack table free for all and the sugar rush led to lots of wrestling and playing with the new Avengers figures. Once everyone was settled and in their jammies, we began our, “screening.” None of the kids made it past the first movie, but they’re still super pumped for the newest release.

It’s simple to create a special event for your children by celebrating their favorite characters. With just a little creativity and few hours of planning, you can create a fun sleepover party just like this one with very little effort.

Now that I’ve shared my family’s comic geek side, tell me, will you be attending the new release of MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron in May? Who is your favorite Avenger? Let’s chat Avengers in the comments below.
