It’s been unusually cool in the High Desert this summer and we have been taking full advantage of our mid-90s afternoons (yes, that’s cool for us desert dwellers!). The kids have been spending hours each afternoon playing outside and creating a playhouse with the scrap wood from Aiden’s bedroom project. I have to say, the’ve been quite inventive using rocks to position the wood (because obviously we won’t allow them to play with hammer and nails) and created a neat little shelter area that they have dubbed The Shade. They’ll come in for snacks and water bottle refills and head back out to The Shade to congregate and decide on their next adventure. Today’s was fighting off a giant worm from devouring the house.<\/p>\n

With the cooler weather, it’s been ideal for an evening desert grill-out and we have been itching to use our sunny orange charcoal grill (it was a Father’s Day present to Jacob a few years back). We have our hands full with five kids at home, so we try to keep the meal prepping minimal, easy, and simple. Already marinated pork that’s ready for the grill made it an easy choice for our family grill out. All I had to do was steam some broccoli and prep some rolls to complete the meal. The pork was packed with flavor and so tender it made my mouth salivate. A little drool during dinner never hurt anyone, right?<\/p>\n
