Handmade Fish Puppets

What mom isn’t familiar with the always fun to eat Goldfish® crackers? In fact, some of us have been known to sneak in a handful now and then between dishing out a portion to our kiddos, not naming any name here, coughHOLLYcough. Right now at Target, our beloved…I mean our kid’s beloved Goldfish crackers now feature Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory on the package with their Goldfish® Special Edition! Cheddar Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory Crackers. Inspired by the fun, my kiddos and I got a little crafty and transformed lunch time into a full blown event by creating our own Handmade Fish Puppets. Snacking on the limited edition Goldfish cracker colors (colors sourced from plants) throughout the project, of course!

SUPPLIES

• construction or patterned scrapbook paper
• popsicle sticks
• jewels, stickers, embellishments
• scissors
• glue
• tape

To start, we each traced one of our hands onto a piece of construction paper.

Next, we trimmed the paper around our hands and flipped them sideways to resemble a swimming fish.

We glued on some eyeballs by cutting leftover scrap paper into circles and coloring in little eyes. And added fishy lips by cutting out small heart shapes.

And added some fun embellishments to make our fish shine and sparkle.

And lastly, we added our popsicle sticks to transform our bedazzled fish into lunch time puppets.

Once we were done, we put on fishy shows for each other, making character noises and creating stores in our imaginations.

There are fewer lunch menus my son Collin loves more than Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup. He requests it so often that he knows all the varieties. When I saw that Campbell’s was getting in on the fun with their own special Campbell Soup featuring Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory, it was a match made in fish puppet heaven. The chicken with fun-shaped pasta in chicken broth features fun new pasta shapes (and contains no added MSG!) that got my kiddos excited about our themed luncheon date.
