My family and I are known for our family movie nights. I’m a sucker for a theme and we try to go all out when we set aside a night together to watch a flick. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen some of our themed-out events from buying Mexican candy to our very own movie theater popcorn machine. We don’t mess around with movie night, friends. It’s serious business. Which is why when Illumination Entertainment’s Minions movie was released earlier this week, I planned out a special snack just to celebrate our favorite mischievous little friends.

This fun Minions Popcorn is so simple to make and transforms a regular family evening into a fun event that the kids will love getting into. Just a few simple ingredients, roughly an hour of your time, and you’re on your way to a magical Minions movie night.

In a large stewing pot, add about a quarter of an inch of oil and turn on over high heat. I used Market Pantry Canola Oil from Target. It was easy to grab since I was already in the store picking up our Minions Blu-Ray/DVD and other movie night supplies. As if you needed any additional excuses to shop at the Motherland Target, the Minions DVD contains 40 minutes of Target exclusive content and the Metalpak (the one I purchased) is only available at Target.

Once the oil is nice and hot (you can test this out by tossing in a couple of popcorn kernels to see if they pop), toss in some kosher salt and add in about half a cup of popcorn kernels and cover the pot with a lid.

The popcorn will start to pop quickly, so ensure you’re getting even popping by moving the pot back and forth over the flame. When it’s all done, your pot will be full of tasty popcorn!

Once all the popcorn is popped, transfer to a flat surface covered with parchment paper.

Allow the popcorn to cool completely and then it’s time for the fun part! Melt blue chocolates in the microwave and then drizzle over the popcorn.

Before the chocolate sets, add in a few candy eyes and yellow sprinkles.

Give the chocolate about an hour to fully set before transferring to bags or a bowl.

You can serve this fun Minions popcorn in blue or yellow bags to compliment the classic colors of our playful friends. If your kids are anything like mine, Minions are the ultimate funny character.
